McKnight Foundation Office Relocation Signage
How do you embody a brand through signage?

Understand the history and goals
5 by 5 Design was tasked with creating a functional, aesthetically pleasing, adaptable signage system for McKnight Foundation’s new 50,000-square-foot campus, located in a 100-year-old office building.
We began the process by ensuring the signage was in alignment with the Foundation’s goal for the building and its brand: blending historic preservation, energy efficiency, and green materials to make an accessible, welcoming, and functional space for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Translate ideas into actions
The design process involved the client and its stakeholders and evolved as new needs were discovered. From that process, our team created a variety of signage options at different price points and design aesthetics. Knowing the client was tasked with many move-in projects, our team stepped in to handle vendor selection and managed the production and installation process.

Create tools to speak to all
The result was sustainable signage that supports the Foundation’s brand mission of helping people and the planet thrive. Not only does the signage honor key members of the McKnight family and provide practical information and wayfinding, it’s also ADA-compliant and respects the new building’s LEED certification by using reclaimed, recycled, and repurposed materials where possible. By staying agile, responsive, and creative, these flexible signage solutions can adapt as the client’s needs continue to evolve.
